Take Action

Utah is one of the fastest-growing and driest states, with shrinking snowpack and strained water supplies. Small daily choices like saving water at home or driving less often can make a big difference. The list below covers practical, Utah-relevant actions, many of which can also reduce utility costs. Select the checkboxes of the items you’ll commit to and enter your email at the bottom to send yourself a personalized reminder.

Save Energy at Home

[ ] Upgrade to Energy Star appliances – When it’s time to replace old appliances, choose

Energy Star-rated models.

[ ] Install solar panels – It’s a great way to cut carbon and save on energy bills, and Utah

offers a solar tax credit for homes. Click here to learn more.

Conserve Water

[ ] Shorten showers and turn off faucets – Keeping showers short and turning off the water faucets while brushing your teeth saves a lot of water.

[ ] Shut off sprinklers when it’s hot out – Using sprinklers in the evening or early morning reduces how much water is needed to keep your lawn green.

Drive & Breathe Cleaner

[ ] Drive less – Carpool, bike, or take public transit (for example, UTA’s HivePass or

Greenbike programs) whenever possible to slash your tailpipe emissions.

[ ] Choose a cleaner car – When shopping for a new car, consider a hybrid or electric vehicle. EVs have zero tailpipe emissions and can greatly improve air quality.

Eat & Waste Less

[ ] Meatless Monday – Food makes up a major portion of a household’s carbon footprint. Replacing just one meat-based meal per week with plant-based foods can make a big difference.

[ ] Buy locally produced foods – Buying local, in-season produce also reduces emissions from transportation. Find Utah producers here.

Engage in Community & Local Action

[ ] Educate others – Share UCAP stories or host a discussion at your school, workplace, or faith group to spread accurate climate information and inspire local action.

[ ] Participate in government – Email your senator or attend local government meetings to weigh in about issues that concern you.
